Ruby wasn't exactly a morning person. Never had been, despite Johan trying his best in trying to raise him as one. Of course Ruby still got up at the same tick of the clock as the Kyogre - the first sound of Johan getting up was enough to wake up Ruby as well - but there was no denying that the Sableye was far slower in the morning routines. It took him a bit longer to get himself up from the bed, took a few extra minutes to get dressed - and a hour or two more to actually wake up. He couldn’t help it, no matter how he tried. His inner clock just refused to adjust.
And yet, there were exceptions. There were mornings when Ruby woke up before Johan.
Only those mornings the Sableye was woken up by burning pain instead of the soft sound of his adoptive father getting up. Mornings when his joint pains flared up with all their crippling force.
As a kid, Ruby had often woken up to the sound of his own pained scream before he had acknowledged what had caused it. Woken up Johan, to
